Bocage.
A Imagem e o Verbo

On the occasion of the 250th birth anniversary of Bocage (2015) – a notable figure of the Portuguese Enlightenment – this book revealed some of his more complex, hidden dimensions.
Surrounded by anecdotes and an aura of provocation, Bocage's role in 18th century Portuguese poetry is often overlooked. Coliding with an established aesthetic and a conservative moral, he battled against hypocrisy and earned broad respect and admiration. Authored by Daniel Pires – president of the Bocage Research Center – and edited by the Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (INCM), the poet's life, times, poetry and posterity are the organizing themes of this volume that brings together a vast collection of images.
